Python Programming Bootcamp: Go from zero to hero. The time.sleep pauses execution, making the program wait for the defined time. The time to wait (sleep) is defined in seconds. If you don’t want the program to completely freeze use threading instead. The sleep function suspends (waits) execution of the current thread for a given number of seconds. Python has a module named time which provides several useful functions to handle time-related tasks. One of the popular functions among them is sleep. The sleep function suspends execution of the current thread for a given number of seconds. I am creating a program that counts down after a time, and asks for input of seconds to add to the countdown. (Not really, just an example). Kind of like this: mytime = 10 while True: print(ti.

Sometimes, you will need to have a program wait before it moves on. You might need to wait for another function to complete, for a file to upload, or simply to make the user experience smoother. If you’ve got a Python program and you want to make it wait, you can use a simple function like this one:
![Python sleep 1 second Python sleep 1 second](/uploads/1/3/7/7/137789355/658251008.jpg)
time.sleep(x)
where x is the number of seconds that you want your program to wait. The new Python sleep system call will last at least the number of seconds you’ve specified, even if the sleep is interrupted by a signal. This does not apply if the signal itself raises an exception, however. You can test how long the sleep lasts by using Python’s timeit module.
For example:
time.sleep(10)
will make your program wait 10 seconds.Python Sleep 1 Second Grade

Now that you know how to make a program wait, want to practice using this function? You can practice by creating your own program, Take A Break, from Udacity’s Intro to Programming with Python course.
Take a Break instructs your computer periodically to open a web browser and play your favorite YouTube song. This is a great way to use a program function to remind yourself to take a stretch (or dance!) break when you’ve been glued to the computer screen all day.
